ComicWalker

In this post, I would like to introduce a new service offered by the same company behind digital Japanese bookstore BookWalker (Kadokawa):

ComicWalker

It’s a site where you can read recent or ongoing Japanese manga for ‘free’ (more on this later). It also has mobile apps.

It’s ComicWalker btw and not MangaWalker because it also offers English and Chinese translated manga, though not all manga are translated.

Some manga are ComicWalker originals but most are recent or currently serializing manga.

The catch here is that you can’t read every chapters. You can read the first few chapters (maybe just the first chapter – max I’ve seen so far are up to chapter 3), but after that you can only read the latest chapter. So let’s say latest chapter is chapter 14, you can’t read chapter 13 etc. And when chapter 15 is up, you can’t no longer read chapter 14.

(They chose not to say what the latest chapter is, but currently this particular manga is at chapter 4, meaning you no longer can’t read chapter 2 & 3)

Technically you can screen-capture the chapter while it lasts if you want to keep it ^^; If you missed some of the chapters, you need to go through other means such as buying the manga physically or digitally via BookWalker etc.

They also have a schedule calendar that lets us know when new chapters are posted:

Supposedly if you become a member, you can also have them send e-mail notifying you when a new chapter of particular manga series is uploaded (it doesn’t seem to work for me, maybe it’s because they detected I already read the manga they’re about to notify me).

It doesn’t mean that the manga are up-to-date, though. Some are a few chapters behind the physical magazine (like Kantai Collection ones). Some are VERRYY behind (Hentai Ouji and Evangelion). But unless they are actively scanlated, some can be pretty recent.
