Finally made another breakthrough on Project Diva F2nd ^^;
Perfected 結ンデ開イテ羅刹ト骸 (aka Rasetsu song) on Hard:
This song is rather fun to play and my problem is just with the last set of patterns where I have to rapidly press different buttons while switching to double presses.
Maybe this is a common knowledge among veteran Project Diva players, and I’m just slow, but I just discovered a new trick today to overcome this part. This trick is useful for those patterns where double markers alternate very fast (with double markers of different buttons).
Project Diva players might know the buffer technique; for example, if you keep your left thumb pressed on left D-pad, and you press square, that can register as the ‘double left’ marker.
The new trick I learned today is just an extension to this and I call it diagonal buffering. You keep your left thumb pressed on two D-pads instead of just one. Basically you’re pressing diagonally (like when you block low in fighting games) and buffering for two types of double markers at once. And it won’t penalize you for example for pressing circle for circle marker even when your left thumb is pressed on left D-pad. For a set of patterns where there are only two types of double markers, just diagonal buffer the appropriate D-pads beforehand, and you can essentially go through the entire set of patterns as if they just consist of single markers.
p.s. I only know this works in F2nd because I haven’t tested it in previous games (maybe the mechanics change). I do know there will be score reduction for buffering ^^; I also know that this is not really a trick to be proud of as there are players who don’t need such tricks. It’s just that I’m not as dexterous as them ^^; (and it still remains a mystery whether I could ever improve beyond my ‘limit’…)
This trick helped me with the end of this song on Hard (I buffer left and up), the beginning of カゲロウデイズ on Hard (I buffer right and down). It might possibly help me with 秘密警察 on Extreme on Project Diva f/F, if I pick up that game again.
